Information on YABC

YABC is the IFRC’s flagship initiative on the promotion of a culture of non-violence and peace. It was created in 2008 for youth and with youth from Red Cross and Red Crescent worldwide. YABC empowers young people to take up an ethical leadership role in inspiring a positive transformation of mind-sets, attitudes and behaviours within themselves and their community. It is built on three pillars: youth empowerment, operating from inner peace and reaching out to the community.

The training covers topics including:

Youth empowerment • Development of skills to promote a culture of non-violence and peace (CNV+P) • A non-cognitive or ‘from the heart to the mind’ methodology • Peer education and mentoring

Operating from inner peace • Inner change • ‘Internal arts’ (e.g. Qi Gong, yoga and meditation) • Strengthening resilience to cope with stress, peer pressure and resistance

Reaching out to the community • Creative platforms for social mobilization (e.g. visual arts, dance, theatre, music, sport) • YABC projects and grass-roots outreach (examples) • YABC workshops, trainings and activities.

Please note that the YABC training can be psychologically challenging and involves tapping into feelings and emotions that may be difficult for some people. It is best that the person attending the training has not been through anything emotionally draining recently so that they are in the best frame of mind to complete the training.

On completion of the training, participants will receive certification as a YABC Peer Educator and have access to the toolkit for the programme.

Attached is a booking form and which must be completed and returned to jeugdrodekruis@rodekruis.be by Saturday 15th May 2021.
